History
The Institution of Engineers, Pakistan came into existence in 1948 with the blessings of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as successor to the Institution of Engineers, UK.
The working of the Institution of Engineers, Pakistan is on the pattern of the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK.
The primary objective of the IEP is promoting Professional Development of Engineers.

Objectives
IEP works as an NGO (Non Governmental Organization) under the Societies Registration Act in accordance with its Constitution and Bye-Laws.
The Institution provides platform for interaction between academia and other stakeholders for continuous development of Engineering students, academia, and professional Engineers.
Regular lectures, workshops, symposia, technical conferences / seminars, study tours and visits to the engineering works, both in Pakistan and abroad, are also arranged for the Members.

Organization
The supreme controlling body of the Institution is the Central Council with President, Secretary General, Vice Presidents and Central Council Members who formulate policies.
There are eight local centres, each managed by the Chairman, Secretary, Vice Chairmen and Local Council Members who arrange and manage all the professional development activities.
